A bold statement is about to be made on the national stage, as Miss Scarborough, Becks Morgan, steps into the spotlight with a mission that goes beyond beauty. The Yorkshire Coast and its education trailblazers are ready for their close-up!
Becks, a Scarborough native now residing in Whitby, is set to compete in the Miss Great Britain Final, an iconic pageant with a rich history dating back to 1945. This competition seeks more than just beauty; it's a platform for strength, intelligence, ambition, integrity, and compassion. And Becks, fresh from her history degree at the University of Oxford, is ready to embody these qualities.
"I'm thrilled to represent my home region on a national stage," Becks shares. "Miss Great Britain is a pageant that excites me, but it's the community work and the opportunity to showcase my roots that truly captivated me."
But here's where it gets controversial... Becks has a unique twist for the competition. She'll be donning an outfit sourced from a local charity shop, with a special connection to Cancer Research UK. "Danny, a staff member at the shop, found the perfect dress for me. It's an incredible feeling to know that I'm supporting a cause close to my heart while representing my community."
And this is the part most people miss... Becks' focus extends beyond the pageant. She's on a mission to promote the Yorkshire Coast, a region often overlooked. This aligns with the pageant's wider ethos, which views pageants as a tool for tourism promotion and environmental awareness. Becks is their Tourism Ambassador, ready to showcase the best of her region.
"I'm excited to represent my community, but I must admit, the opening dance number has me a bit nervous. I'm not the best dancer, but I'll give it my all!"
Beyond tourism, Becks has launched "HER STORY," a campaign dedicated to recognizing women in education who have been historically overlooked. "Many women have broken barriers through education, yet their achievements have been silenced. My campaign aims to award posthumous degrees to these trailblazers and create sponsorships and scholarships for future generations."
There's a growing movement in academia, as Becks highlights. "Oxford University recently awarded a posthumous master's degree to a native New Zealander who attended over a hundred years ago. It's a powerful reminder that we must recognize and celebrate the efforts of those who came before us."
So, as Becks takes to the stage, she's not just competing; she's advocating for change. Will her unique approach and powerful message resonate with the judges and the audience? Only time will tell. But one thing is certain: Becks Morgan is a force to be reckoned with, and her impact will be felt long after the pageant ends.
What do you think? Is this a refreshing take on pageantry, or does it distract from the core values of the competition? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
