Deep, dark, chocolate-y frozen hot chocolateserved up in a gigantic bowl with a pile of whipped cream and chocolate shavings on top. Just like the famous frozen hot chocolateat Serendipity in NYC!
It’s Wednesday!!! We’re halfway through the week ????????! #wednesdaygoals
Normally, I don’t mind kicking my husband and daughter out of the house every Monday morning for a long 5-day work and school week. I like being able to get things “done” (as if that everreally happens, though, right?) during the day, and to put things away just so and know they’ll stay that way for at least a few hours (as long as said things are out of toddler reach ????). I relish in a quiet house during naptime, and then I enjoy the rush of having everyone come home and be together in the evening.
But I’m always kind of sad that I have to send my husband back to work (not so much for the 6-year-old; with her, I’m alwayslikesee ya✌????). Which means I’ve already texted him like 8 thousand times asking if he’son his way home yet ????.
Maybe I’m especially missing him because I happen to have the perfect dessert for two to share with you today!
My husband and I have been to Serendipity a handful of times just because I love the frozen hot chocolate so much! My favorite location is in Georgetown in DC. It’s such a beautiful section of town. I think I could drive up and down the streets looking at the ornate townhomes and sweet little sidewalks forever.
Also…there’s a Sprinkles down the street, and I always need a cupcake after my frozen hot chocolate????.
Annnnnnnnnyway. ????
Serendipity’s famous frozen hot chocolate is super duper easy to replicate at home! So if you can’t hit one of the big cities to try it at the restaurant (or you just don’t want to pay that crazy menu price!), no worries– you can make the exact same thing in your own kitchen.
All you’ll need is some really good chocolate, a saucepan, and a blender.
This would be perfect for a sweet Valentine’s day dessert for two at home! ❤️
Or… you know… for a Wednesday second breakfast. Whatever. ????Enjoy!
Frozen Hot Chocolate FAQs
Can I use a different type of chocolate?
You can, but the results may not be as good. I really recommend using a high-quality chocolate for this recipe.
What if I don’t have hot chocolate mix?
You can either make your own mix by combining equal parts cocoa powder and sugar, or you can use another type of flavoring such as peppermint extract.
What can I do if I don’t have a large sundae glass?
You can either use a smaller glass or just pour it into a bowl. It will be harder to layer the whipped cream and chocolate shavings on top, but it will still taste great!
As you can see, this frozen hot chocolate is just like the one at Serendipity in NYC. I know that because I’ve been there and tried it myself! It’s so easy and definitely worth trying if you love chocolate as much as I do. Will you give it a try?

Frozen hot chocolate is a creamy blended drink that, as its name suggests, tastes like hot chocolate but is ice cold. It's similar to a chocolate milkshake, but given that there's no ice cream, it's not as thick.
My recipe combines melted chocolate, hot chocolate mix (you can also use something like Ovaltine or Nesquik!), sugar, milk, and ice for a frothy, deliciously rich yet refreshing drink. For the chocolate, you can use milk chocolate, semisweet chocolate, dark chocolate, or even white – whatever you prefer!
Rice Flour or Arrowroot Powder: These can act as thickening agents, similar to cornflour. Again, mix with a little cold liquid to create a paste and then stir into the hot chocolate.
It's more a dessert than a drink, and the serving is huge, so I had to abandon my original plan about a main course later. The Frrrozen Hot Chocolate is $19.95 but considering that it's so filling, it's a meal in itself I guess the price is somewhat justified.
In 2007, Serendipity 3 was forced to temporarily close after failing two consecutive health inspections in a single month. Health inspectors found a live mouse, mouse droppings, flies and live co*ckroaches.
How can something be hot and frozen at the same time? Well, this drink's name is definitely an oxymoron. However, It makes sense when you break down the contents of the drink. You will blend ice with the hot cocoa mix, and that's where we got the name.
Originally Answered: Why does a chocolate bar seem to be tastier, once you have taken it out of the freezer? Freezing chocolate will change its flavor profile because volatile oils that transmit many of the taste sensations will be less active.
While both Coca-Cola and hot chocolate may be enjoyable treats, when it comes to health, hot chocolate is the better choice. This is because hot chocolate is typically made with milk, which provides calcium and other essential nutrients, while Coca-Cola is high in sugar and offers little nutritional value.
If you've never had Frozen Hot Chocolate, you're missing out. This frosty, freezy-cool drink is icy and utterly delicious, creamy and chocolaty, and tastes just like rich milk chocolate cocoa but frozen.
Psychoactive constituents of chocolate that trigger a 'feel-good' reaction for the consumer include tryptophan and phenylethylamine, which may contribute to cravings and addiction-like responses, particularly in people with specific genetic alleles.
If the hot chocolate doesn't thicken, add a slurry of cornstarch and milk (dissolve ¼ teaspoon of cornstarch in a tablespoon of cold milk) to the hot chocolate and continue stirring over medium high heat until slightly thickened.
Sweet add-ins include marshmallows, whipped cream, caramel, flavored spreads, and maple syrup. To transform cocoa into a co*cktail, add flavored liqueurs or traditional spirits. Other unique ways to liven up hot chocolate include adding coffee, spices, and extracts.
We suggest also listing the price for a cup of hot chocolate. Consider charging $1-3 depending on the size of the cups you purchase. If you'd like to be mindful of the environment, offer a $.
