The thieves are calling from a spoofed caller ID such as “SF SHERIFF”S OFFICE”, “SAN FRANCISCO COUNTY” or “SF CITY HALL.” They often identify themselves as a specific deputy, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, or chief and demand thousands of dollars. They’ll tell you that you have failed to respond to a federal warrant or subpoena, pay a citation, or appear for jury duty. Instead of arresting you, they’ll say you must pay a fine, either by cash in person, by wire, Bitcoin, Cash App, gift card, or Venmo. One caller told us that a scammer tried to get him to post bail for a family member using AI-generated voice technology. SAN FRANCISCO POLICE DEPARTMENT2+ weeks agoAgencyTenderloin Enforcement Operation San Francisco police made 42 arrests – including 30 wanted fugitives – while seizing narcotics during a one-day, multi-agency law enforcement operation in the Tenderloin and surrounding areas, Chief Bill Scott announced Thursday. “Our officers will continue to make arrests and hold individuals committing crimes accountable for their actions,” Chief Scott said. “I truly appreciate our hard-working officers and our city partners for their commitment to this effort.” The operation, which occurred throughout the day Wednesday, was the latest large-scale enforcement operation that is part of the city’s Drug Market Agency Coordination Center. Of the 42 arrests – 30 individuals had outstanding warrants. Officers seized narcotics including fentanyl and methamphetamine. SFPD has been intensifying enforcement at night around U.N. Plaza and other areas where illegal activity occurs. These operations will continue for the foreseeable future. Wednesday’s operation included the United States Marshals Service San Franciso Sherriff’s Office, Adult Probation Department, SFPD officers from the Narcotics Unit, Narcotics Drug Recognition Expert Team, Tenderloin Station Patrol/Violence Reduction Team, Tenderloin Plainclothes Team, and the Fugitive Recovery Enforcement Team. We’re trying to gather more information and would greatly appreciate your help. Did anyone notice a suspicious individual passing by your homes, particularly between 3 am and 4 am? If you have security cameras, could you please check your footage from that time? Our house is located near the VA hospital, so if you’re in that vicinity, your footage could be especially helpful. SAN FRANCISCO POLICE DEPARTMENTa week agoAgencyTenderloin Enforcement Operation San Francisco police seized over 6 kilos (13.5 lbs.) of narcotics and made 13 arrests during a one-day law enforcement operation this week around United Nations Plaza and the San Francisco Public Library. The operation, which occurred throughout Tuesday, was the latest large-scale enforcement operation that is part of the city’s Drug Market Agency Coordination Center (DMACC). Of the 13 arrests – five are suspected of possession for sales of narcotics. Other arrests were related to possession of controlled substances, arrest warrants, and stay-away orders. SFPD has specifically been focusing enforcement around the library and seized almost 4 pounds of narcotics in that area during Tuesday’s operation. Additionally, officers served a search warrant that was a result of an ongoing narcotics investigation. With the assistance of an SFPD K-9 unit, officers located and seized firearms, ammunition, and over 9 lbs. of narcotics, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine. Tuesday’s operation included SFPD officers from the Narcotics Unit, Narcotics Drug Recognition Expert Team, Tenderloin Station Patrol/Violence Reduction Team, and Tenderloin Plainclothes Team. The SFPD would like to thank the assistance of the San Franciso Sherriff’s Office and the Army National Guard who were instrumental in this operation. Our efforts in taking wanted suspects off our streets to hold individuals accountable for selling illegal narcotics and creating a drug crisis on our streets will make streets safer and save lives. Mayor London Breed launched the DMACC in May 2023. The effort combines city, state, and federal resources to dismantle the drug markets in the Tenderloin and South of Market neighborhoods. Since May 29, the SFPD has seized over 194 kilos of narcotics and made more than 3,000 arrests specifically related to drug activity in these neighborhoods.147Like45
CAL FIRE2+ weeks agoAgencySerial Arsonist Arrested in El Dorado County. Suspect arrested on suspicion of starting fires in El Dorado and Amador counties On October 23, 2023, El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputies arrested an individual for a CAL FIRE-related warrant in El Dorado County for three fires that occurred in Pollock Pines in mid-September. Since the individual was taken into custody, he has been charged with two additional fires, totaling five fires between El Dorado and Amador counties. With assistance from CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officers, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office, and the El Dorado County Fire Protection District, Steven Saunders, age 27, was arrested and booked in the El Dorado County Jail on suspicion of arson and starting fires at the following locations: • A structure fire on September 13, 2023, at 2:33 a.m. at the Taco Bell Building at 6454 Pony Express Trail in Pollock Pines. • A vegetation fire on September 13, 2023, at 9:48 p.m. behind the Family Dollar Store at 6524 Pony Express Trail in Pollock Pines. • A vegetation fire on September 14, 2023, at 5:18 a.m. behind CVS Drugs at 6450 Pony Express Trail in Pollock Pines. • A vegetation fire on October 21, 2023, at 4:00 a.m. in the area of Meadow View Road and Shenandoah Road in River Pines. • A vegetation fire (the Ore Fire) on October 23, 2023, at 3:39 p.m. in the area of Highway 49 and Ore Court in Logtown. Through evidence obtained at the fire scenes, all fires were determined to be arson. CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officers work diligently to investigate all fires and apprehend those suspected of starting fires. From January 1, 2023, through September 30, 2023, CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officers have made 88 arson arrests. CAL FIRE2+ weeks agoAgencyOn March 31, 2024, and April 8, 2024, the California State University, San Jose (SJSU) Police and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) - Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) Arson and Bomb Unit responded to fires in the Martin Luther King Jr. Library on the SJSU campus. The investigation revealed the fire causes were arson, on State of California property, and occupied by students at the time of the arson fires. The joint law enforcement investigation was a collaboration between SJSU Police and the CAL FIRE – OSFM Arson and Bomb Unit. All personnel involved worked tirelessly to canvass the area, review security camera footage, cultivate leads, and ultimately identify the suspect. The suspect was identified as SJSU sophom*ore student Amogh Upadhya. Amogh Upadhya was arrested and charged with four (4) counts of Arson and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail. Upadhya is being held on $400,000.00 bail until a court hearing on April 12, 2024.
